Kananaskis Country Refurbishment Plan

Kananaskis Country, AB – 2008

Kananaskis Country is comprised of over 4,000 square kilometres of Rocky Mountain wilderness, evergreen valleys, lakes, streams and high alpine mountain landscape. In the 1970’s Lombard North Group provided complete inventory and analysis, consultation and full design services for the initial development of a multitude of campgrounds, day use areas, back country trails, and trailhead facilities in the area. Thirty years later, Lombard North was commissioned by Alberta Parks to undertake an evaluation of some of the front country facilities, and to develop a conceptual refurbishment master plan and detailed designs for the long term revitalization of nine separate day use areas and campgrounds the area.

Sikome Lake – Fish Creek Provincial Park

Fish Creek Provincial Park, AB – 2008

Lombard North Group was commissioned by the Alberta Parks to conduct a study that was intended to access the feasibility of reconstructing the Sikome Lake swimming facilities in order to create a more family oriented water park. However, as the assessment progressed, the scope of the study evolved and broadened to become a more comprehensive review of the facility as a whole. Its ultimate purpose was to provide an overview of current conditions and operational challenges, and to make recommendations for a long term redevelopment program that would help to ensure Sikome’s viability as a recreational facility for families.

Trans Canada Highway Borrow Pits and Creek Diversions

Banff National Park – Current

Due to the amount of materials required for the construction of Trans-Canada Highway Twinning Project, aggregate was sourced from various locations along the highway corridor called borrow pits.  Lombard North Group has been involved in the master planning, phasing design an rehabilitation planning of these projects including Healy Pit, kilometre 69 pit, Mannix Pit, Cascade Pit and Marmot Pit.

North West LRT Extension

Calgary, AB

Lombard North Group was involved with the conceptual development of two park and ride locations and bus loops for a new LRT station on NW Calgary.  The design incorporated bio-swales for storm water management as well as shelters and planting for wind abatement.  Public engagement, which included open houses, was an integral part of the design process.

Cougar Creek Pedestrian Underpass

Canmore, AB – 2010

Lombard North Group was commissioned to design the landscape architectural portions of the pedestrian crossing and trail system in Canmore. Encompassing over half a kilometre, including a pedestrian underpass below the Trans-Canada Highway, the trail system creates a safe and efficient link between north and south Canmore.  Along with providing conceptual drawings which were used in public consultations, Lombard North Group also provided construction supervision of the landscape architectural work related to the pedestrian underpass and trail system. Lombard North worked as a sub-consultant to Associated Engineering.

Crossings Community

Lethbridge, AB – 2008

Lombard North Group was responsible for the landscape design and development of the traffic islands, boulevards and storm pond at The Crossings residential community development.  The storm pond is a focal point and is centrally located adjacent to a residential community, a multi-family complex, commercial district and two high schools. The design of the storm pond includes pathways, water access for emergency and maintenance vehicles, viewpoints and a plaza space which provide pedestrian connectivity while the landscaping details thematically compliment the character of The Crossings community.

Crowchild Trail Corridor

Calgary, AB – 2001

Calgary’s Crowchild Trail Corridor involved the design and development of the landscape treatments along the road corridor from Charleswood Drive to Nosehill Drive NW.  The landscape design incorporated screening, retaining walls, visual and sound attenuation.  Public engagement and community stakeholder consultation was an important aspect of the design process.

Arbour Stone Rise Pedestrian Overpass

Calgary, AB

The Arbour Stone Rise Pedestrian Bridge crosses Stoney Trail NW and connects the communities or Royal Oak and Arbour Lake. Working with Delcan, Lombard North provided landscape architectural services for the design and development of the pathways and landscaping for the pedestrian bridge.

Copperwood at Coalbanks Landing

Lethbridge, AB – 2006

The residential community of Copperwood at Coalbanks Landing is a Copperwood Land Corp. development located in West Lethbridge. Lombard North Group provided landscape architectural services for the design and implementation of community landscape features for the first three development phases including entry features, decorative fencing, boulevard treatments, municipal parks, trail systems, and a storm water management dry pond facility.

Hillsboro Multi-Family Development

Lombard North provided landscape architectural services for the Hillsboro Multi-Family Development. Undulating greenspaces include trails, viewpoints and plaza spaces.
